A little about me!
I'm Michelle, artist, maker, dog lover and cake-a-holic! Most days you'll
find me and Maddie, my hairy studio pal , in my garden studio in Rutland
(the smallest county in England!)
Back in 2016 (after a 20 year diversion as a primary school teacher) I
decided to go back to the artistic side of my training and paint children's
murals.
Quite quickly, I realised that my cartoon style struck a chord with adults as well as children. In a world that can be quite serious at times, having something light-hearted, something to make you smile or laugh, appealed to lots of people. So over the last few years, the majority of my work has focused on creating fun, friendly animal paintings and freestanding wooden pieces, as well as commissioned portraits and wooden figures of people and their pets!
All of my original figures and paintings are drawn by hand and painted using acrylics. My wooden figures are created with the help of my fabulous and ever-patient retired dad, who has his own workshop in his garden and cuts all my shapes perfectly to match the designs I give him. As everything is individually made, I love the fact that I can give everything the personal touch! I also print and make all my layered prints and cards personally, using recycled (and recyclable) paper and card wherever possible.
I spend a lot of weekends travelling to shows in various parts of the country, meeting and chatting to new and potential customers and clients (and often their dogs too!) But otherwise I'll usually be found beavering away in the studio on commissions and new designs (or eating cake!) If you have an idea of something you'd like to see, maybe something special that will make you smile, please get in touch.
All the best,
Michelle xx
